What is tissue engineering?
Tissue engineering is a field of science that creates living tissues and organs in the laboratory to help repair or replace damaged parts of the human body. When someone has an injury, disease, birth defect, or organ failure, tissue engineering offers the possibility of growing new, healthy tissue that can be transplanted into their body to restore normal function. The ultimate goal is to create tissues that the body will accept as its own—without rejection—and that will function properly for many years.
This field represents a promising frontier in medicine, offering hope for patients with conditions that currently have limited treatment options.
Vascudyne uses only biological materials to grow tissues in the lab and develop biocompatible and durable implants.
Our technology
Foundation
We use fibrin derived from plasma to create a completely biological scaffold that cells thrive in.
Human cells are added to our fibrin material where they attach, multiply, and become evenly distributed throughout the growing tissue.
Maturation
Tissue development and maturation takes place in our GMP manufacturing facility in bioreactors where the appropriate stimuli are provided for each clinical indication.
Cells remodel the fibrin, deposit proteins, and create tissues with native-like strength and architecture.
Quality
Cells are removed to render tissues non-immunogenic and final products are tested for sterility to ensure patient safety.
Products demonstrating key attributes are prepared for storage and transportation.
Implantation
Our completely biological products are implanted in patients who would benefit from regenerative products.
Our applications have been thoroughly tested throughout production for safety and efficacy, meeting stringent quality control requirements.
Benefits & Properties
Biological
Biological allograft tissue is processed to minimize immunogenic responses. Some patients receiving xenografts (non-human species) or synthetic biomaterials may experience immune reactions as the body responds to foreign materials.
Vascudyne products are designed to integrate with the patient’s native tissue, handle similarly to native tissue during surgical procedures, and support the body’s natural tissue remodeling processes.
Regenerative
Tissue engineering strives to create implants designed to support the patient’s own cells to migrate and regenerate the implanted tissue.
Vascudyne’s tissue becomes living and can adapt like native tissue1. As an example, children receiving our heart valves may not need recurrent surgeries for larger implants, because the allograft tissue can grow with the child and last longer due to its regenerative properties2.
True regeneration can potentially offer unprecedented therapies to improve patient quality of life and longevity.
